honourable the Jean-Charles Lapierre (more known under the name of Jean Lapierre ), C.P., LL.L (born the May 7th 1956 with Basin with the Islands of the Madeleine, Quebec) is a Canadian politician . Former federal liberal deputy of Outremont, he is now political chronicler for network VAT.
Political career
Lapierre studied the right to the Université of Ottawa. It is made elect for the first time at the House of Commons at the time of the election of 1979. Lapierre was a minister second-rate in the transitory government of John Turner.
In 1990, it supports the candidature of Paul Martin for the cheffery of PLC against Jean Chrétien. After the victory of Christian, it leaves PLC to join new the Québécois Bloc, and sits as a deputy bloquist of 1990 to 1993.
Having left the policy for a time, Lapierre preserves a high profile while becoming stimulating for the radio station montréalaise CKAC. He works simultaneously as presenter of news to TQS. Lapierre acquires the reputation of a man who knows the Canadian government very well, and he is requested for political councils.
At the time of the election of 2004, Lapierre returns to the House of Commons of Canada, at the request of Paul Martin, after an eleven years absence, being made elect for the Liberal party in Outremont. He immediately criticized the Loi on clearness chief clerk to show with the Inhabitants of Quebec which he kept a nationalist side. He becomes the political lieutenant of Paul Martin in Quebec. The July 20th 2004, it is named Minister for transport to the Cabinet of Canada. However, the Québécois Block gains 54 of the 75 federal seats of Quebec.
As a Minister for transport in the Minority government of Paul Martin, Lapierre must face the bankruptcy of Jetsgo and the prolongation of the Métro of Laval. It must also refute various charges about the Scandale of the mixed liability companies.
Jean Lapierre is made re-elect at the time of the Canadian federal election of 2006; however, the Liberal party is ejected capacity by the Conservative party of Canada, which forms a Minority government. Lapierre is from now on in the opposition as door word with industry.
Before Christmas 2006, Lapierre announces that he will not be candidate at the time of the next federal election.
