Jean Baptist Jouvenet known as large the , born with Rouen at the end of April 1644 and died with Paris the April 5th 1717, is a painter and decorator French.
Having begun its studies with his father Laurent Jouvenet, it assembles to Paris in 1661 or it joined the studio of Brown the which, estimating it much, associates it with some important works ordered by the king by integrating it into the team of the decorators of the royal residences: the Castle of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer, the Gallery of the Tileries, the Castle of Versailles (Mural of the platform of the new royal vault in 1709) and twelve apostles of the dome of the cathedral Saint-Louis-of the Invalid in 1704.
Its first works are in the style of its Master and Eustace Sweat. He is probably, with the Pit the, most talented of the group of artists who contributed to the decoration of the Trianon and the Invalides, although he is now mainly known for his religious works.
During the Quarrel of the color , it lines up as regards colourist while keeping a certain firmness of the feature in its works.
Moving away from the Classicism later in its career, it incorporates in its style the influence of the Baroque and a realistic treatment of the details, going for example until observing the fishermen with work with Dieppe for its miraculous Pêche in 1706.
Received in 1675 member of the Académie of painting, of which he becomes director in 1705 and perpetual vice-chancellor in 1707, he hardly can, as from this time to be enough with many work with which he is charged and the king, increasingly satisfied with its works, increases considerably the pension of 1.200 books of which he gratifiait it for a long time. But in 1713, it with the right hand paralyzed following an attack of apoplexy. Being afflicted “to be private to work in a time that I do nothing but start to know the difficulties of my art”, it succeeds in being made rather skilful of the left hand to paint, this hand, several fabrics of which the Magnificat or the Innocence continued by the lie and seeking a refuge in the arms of the law and the ceiling of the Parlement of Rouen. Several of its works are exposed to the Musée of Louvre, in particular the Resurrection of Lazare , like with the Musée of the Art schools of Rouen.
His/her sister having married Jean I {{er}} Restout, he is the uncle of Jean II Restout which was its pupil. It also formed Cayot, Collin of Vermont and Nattier.
