Jean Ier of Sweden

Jean Ier (Johan Sverkersson) (1201 - 1222) was king of Sweden 1216 with 1222.

By the play of the alternation of the royal dynasties the crown is allocated in 1216 to the son of Sverker II: Johan I Severkersson. Born in 1201 it is crowned at the 15 years age and dies since 1222, with blackjack years.

During the reign of this adolescent king the country is in fact directed by the church with the head of which is the Olof regent, archbishop of Uppsala.

In 1220, probably in order to counter the Danish expansion in the east of the Baltic , the king organizes with Jarl Karl of the family of Folkungar a crusade in Estonia. The objective was the conquest of the north-western coast of this country (Rotala). This operation was balanced finally by a failure, death with the combat of Jarl Karl and the expulsion of Swedish of the fortified town of Leal which they had built.
