Jean Ier of Auvergne

Jean Ier (? - March 24th 1386) was count d' Auvergne (1361 - 1386) and count de Boulogne (1361-1386), succeeding in these two strongholds its great nephew the duke of Burgundy Philippe Ier known as of Reopen (1346-1361), count in the two strongholds in 1360-1361.

It was also count de Montfort.

He was the son of Robert VII (v. 1282-1325), count d' Auvergne and of his second wife Marie de Dampierre.

He was the half-brother of Guillaume XII and the paternal uncle of the countess Jeanne Ire.

In 1328, the future Jean Ier married Jeanne (dead in 1383), lady of Saint-Just, girl of Jean de Clermont, lord of Charolais.

Of this union is resulting:

  • Jean II (death in 1404), count d' Auvergne (1386-1404) and count de Boulogne (1386-1404)

---- Not to confuse with Jean Ier duke of Auvergne (dates of “reign”: 1360-1416), much more known under the denomination Jean Ier de Berry (1340-1416), which was also (by its marriage with the countess Jeanne II of Auvergne, grand-daughter of the count Jean Ier), count d' Auvergne and count de Boulogne of 1404 with 1416 (and should have been numbered in theory Jean III of Auvergne , denomination fallen to a later count (1497-1501)…)
