Jean Ier of Armagnac

Jean Ier of Armagnac , born in 1311, dead on May 16th 1373, count d' Armagnac, of Fézensac and of Rodez of 1319 with 1373, was wire of Bernard VI, count d' Armagnac and of Fézensac and Cécile, heiress of the Comté of Rodez.

He marries in 1324 Reine of Goth († 1325), small-niece of Clément V and heiress of Lomagne and Auvillars, which died shortly after without child.

Widower, it married in May 1327 Béatrice de Clermont, girl of Jean de Clermont, lord of Charolais, which brings the Charolais to him and gave him three children:

  • Jeanne (1348 † 1388), married on October 17th, 1360 with Carcassonne with Jean de France (1340 † 1416), duke of Berry
  • Marthe († 1378), married on March 6th, 1373 with Barcelona with Jean Ier (1350 † 1395), king d' Aragon.

It is used in Italy under the orders of the king of Bohemia Jean as Luxembourg. Overcome and taken with Ferrare, it is released against a strong ransom in 1330. In 1339, he becomes general captain in Poitou, the Limousin and Saintonge. Lieutenant of the king in Languedoc of 1338 - 1352, it is one of the main leaders of the royal army against the Prince Noir. It ensured the destruction of the anglo-Flemish army, which ordered Robert III of Artois, under the Saint-Omer (on July 28th, 1340). Rejoined to this one after Poitiers (1356), it returns after several volte-face in the camp of Valois, and launches the call campaign to the suzerain justice of king de France who founds juridically the reconquest of Charles V.
