Jean Ier de Montagu

Jean Ier de Châlon or Jean Ier of Burgundy , born towards 1340, died in Amance the December 6th 1373, was a lord of Montaigu and, by marriage, count de Vaudémont and lord de Joinville of 1367 with 1373. It was wire of Henri de Châlon, lord of Montaigu, and Isabeau de Thoire.

In 1360, it fights the English under the orders of the duke of Bar Robert Ier. In 1361, with died of Philippe Ier de Rouvres duke and count de Bourgogne, it in vain tries to take advantage of its rights on the county of Burgundy, being downward by the males of a brother of the count Othon IV. With the head of an army, there invades the county, seizes Gray and Jussey, but must incline in front of the army of the frank barons comtois, remained faithful to the countess Marguerite. In 1365, it is again quoted near the duke of Bar.

He married in first weddings, Marie († 1367), lady of Arc-in-Barrois, girl of Jean of Châteauvillain. Widower, it remarie with Marguerite de Joinville (1354 † 1418), countess of Vaudémont and lady of Joinville, girl of Henri, lord de Joinville and count de Vaudémont, and of Marie of Luxembourg.

She was only thirteen years old and his/her father had just died, from where the urgency to find a sufficiently powerful and skilful guard to him.

Jean de Châlon was a skilful organizer, and stuck to the rebuilding of the fields of his wife, devastated by the Guerre One hundred Year old and to restore forture of his wife, setting with evil by the fights of Henri V with his neighbors. Unfortunately, he dies at the end of six years.

In 1371 and 1372, it takes part of forwardings in Guyenne against the English.
