After the extinction of the royal House of Aviz whose last representative was Sebastien Ier of Portugal, Jean Ier de Bragance founded the House of Bragance which reigned on the Portugal of 1641 with 1910, the current chief of the royal House of Portugal east Edouard de Bragance.
