Jean IV of Harcourt
Jean IV of Harcourt , count d' Harcourt, killed on August 26th, 1346 with Crécy, was knight, Viscount of Châtellerault and Saint-Saver-the-Viscount, lord of Vierzon, Arschot, Tweed, Brionne, Lillebonne etc
He was the son of Jean III of Harcourt, known as the Wrong , baron d' Harcourt, and of Alix of the Brabant, rams of Arschot.
Its proximity with the king Philippe VI enables him to make set up the baronnie of Harcourt in county (1338). It takes part in the battle of the Cassel mount in 1328 and in that of Amiens in 1338. In 1345, it is named captain of Rouen.
Faithful to king de France, it finds death at the time of the Bataille of Crécy (1346), whereas his/her own brother, Geoffroy d' Harcourt, marshal of England, are one of the chiefs of the victorious English army. Froissart reports this episode in its chronicles: " It is quite true that lord Godefroi d' Harcourt, which was of the prince and in his battle, have readily put sorrow and heard so that the count d' Harcourt, his brother, had been saved; because it had yes with English aucuns that one had seen his banner, and that it with its people had come to fight with English. But lord Geoffroy who been able there says it to come in time, and was death on the place says it count, and also the count d' Aumale, his nephew. "
Jean IV of Harcourt had married Isabeau de Parthenay on June 22nd, 1315. He was the father of Jean V of Harcourt, decapitated on order of the king Jean II in 1356, and of Louis d' Harcourt, Viscount of Châtellerault, governor and general lieutenant in Normandy.
