Jean II Georges de Brandebourg , known as the Treasurer , (in German Johann II Georg von Brandenburg), born the September 11th 1525 in Cölln, deceased the January 8th 1598 with Cölln.

It was voter of Brandebourg of 1571 with 1598.

In 1545, Jean II Georges de Brandebourg married Sophie de Liegnitz († 1546), (girl of the duke Frederic II of Liegnitz.

  • Elisabeth Sophie de Brandebourg (1589 - 1629), in 1613, it married prince Janus Ier Radziwilli (1577 - 1620). Widow, it married in 1628, the duke Philippe Jules Ier of Saxony-Lauenbourg (1586 - 1665)

  • Dorothée de Brandebourg (1590 - 1625), in 1610, it married the duke Jean de Brieg († 1639)

  • Sigismond de Brandebourg (1592 - 1640)

Biography

Vis-a-vis the enormous debts accumulated at the time of the reign of his father, Jean II Georges de Brandebourg created a tax which put the peasants under the cut of the exempted nobility of this imposition. Although firmly opposed to the the Reform and the rise of the Calvinism, Jean II Georges de Brandebourg allowed the refugees fleeing the wars of religion to the Spanish Netherlands and in France to settle in its State.

In 1568, date of the death of his/her cousin Albert de Brandebourg, the duchy of Prussia échut with its still minor young person wire Albert Frederic of Prussia, Jean II Georges de Brandebourg took part in the council of regency of the duchy of Prussia.

It founded the first humanistic establishment with Berlin (Berlinische Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster). In its State, it applied the Gregorian calendar.

His/her son Joachim III Frederic de Brandebourg succeeded to him.
