Jean III of the Brabant
Jean III of the Brabant , known as Triumphing it , born in 1300, died with Brussels the December 5th 1355, was duke of the Brabant and Limbourg of 1312 with 1355. It was wire of Jean II, duke of the Brabant and Limbourg, and Marguerite of England.
The beginning of its reign was disturbed by mécontetement, had with the fact that the goods of Brabançons abroad were seized because of the debts of the dukes Jean Ier and Jean II, and in addition with the fact that the advisers of the young person did not respect the Charte of Cortenberg. In exchange of the respect of the Charter, setting under trusteeship of ducal finances and new privileges towards the brabançonnes cities, these last agreed to pay the debts of the duke.
He scrambled himself then with the king of France, which wanted to insulate the Flanders commercially, which went against the economic interests of the Brabant. In 1315, it helped Adolphe of Marck, bishop of Liege to fight against its revolted subjects. During the decades which followed, it fought several of the close lords.
At the beginning of the War One hundred Year old, it lined up at the sides of England and accompanied Edouard III in his forwardings. In reprisal, Philippe VI of Valois made seize the goods of Brabançons in France, and the middle-class men of Brussels revolted then against their duke. Jean III intervened énegiquement and made decapitate a leader. Starting from 1340, it moved away from English alliance, preferring to be combined in France and marrying his/her daughters with allies of the kingdom of France, the duke of Luxembourg, the count of Flanders and the duke of Gueldre.
