Jean Hyrcan Ier
Jean Hyrcan Ier (reign of -134 with its death in -104 front J. - C.), known as Hyrcanus , is the second wire of Simon Macchabée and high priest of Jerusalem at second century BC. He is thus the nephew of Juda Macchabée.
Two of these wire marked the Asmonéenne dynasty: Aristobule Ier and Antigone Ier
He is family member of the Hasmonéens and occupies the title of ethnarque, i.e. of civil chief of a Jewish community, 134 to 104 before the common era. Under its reign, the Judaea finds its independence and increases.
It conquers Sichem and destroys, towards 108 av. J. - C., the temple Samaritain on the Mont Garizim, then the Greek city of Samarie. It destroyed the city and endeavoured to erase to the last trace of the existence of a city strengthened on the hill.”
To ensure the capacity of the dynasty, the Idumée NS were conquered then converted of force to the Judaïsme, which is an exception in the history of a reticent religion in front of conversions.
Pharisees and Sadducéens thrives during its reign, which seems the apogee of the dynasty.
