Jean Herdsman

Jean Bouvier (1920-1987) is a French historian. He was professor at the School of the high studies of Vincennes and with the Sorbonne.

Of Marxist inspiration but without any sectarianism, it was one of the pioneers of the history of time present. Its research, attentive with the transformations of the company, related mainly on the economy and particularly to the bank. He always endeavoured to base his work on a critical analysis of the statistical observations.

Professor rigorous and knowing to respect his pupils, it formed of the hundreds of students and tens of researchers.

The Center Jean-Herdsman of economic and social history of the department of history of the university Paris 8, placé under the responsibility of Michel Margairaz, is placed in the filiation of Jean Bouvier and Ernest Labrousse. Association for the development of the economic history (ADHE), founded in 1989 and chaired by Jacques Marseilles, decrees the price Jean-Herdsman which rewards an economic control of history.
