Jean Grooves
Jean Grooves born Jean-Philippe Robert Geenen, is a painter, a Poète, a Belgian writer born on January 24th, 1927 with Brussels. He dies with the Rochetaillée-on-Saone, close to Lyon on June 30th, 1986.
Biography
As of his years of college, Jean Raine publishes in the review of poetry created by his French professor, Fernand Verhesen, it binds friendship with its school-fellows Luc de Heusch with whom it collaborates later in many films and Hubert June which initiates it with the Surréalisme.Meet Pierre Alechinsky in 1944 or 45. Thanks to their friendship, it takes part as a poet and a scenario writer in the adventure of the group ''' CoBrA '''. It indeed publishes texts in several numbers of the review and organizes “the Festival of experimental and abstract film” during the Second Exposure of Experimental Art Cobra to the palate of Beautiful arts of Liege in 1951.
Its first loves are poetry and the cinema. It met Henri Langlois during an exposure that this one organized in Brussels and joined it with Paris in 1946. The friendship of Langlois and the multiple meetings which it makes with the French Cinémathèque mark it deeply.
Very interested by surrealism, it, in Brussels, met Rene Magritte, Marcel Lecomte which later foreword its first exposure to Brussels and Louis Scutenaire, which prefaces one of its exposures to Paris. As of its arrival in Paris, it returns visit to André Breton which makes known to him the doctor Pierre Mabille with which it carries out its first documentary film on the Test of the Village).
Collaborate in various films with Henri Storck, Henri Kessels, Luc de Heusch, mainly for the drafting of the comments of their films. Inter alia for Perséphone , the only film COBRA carried out by Luc de Heusch and in which plays Nadine Bellaigue, its first épouse. Whereas all its life Jean Raine wrote poems and texts, the words to little by little seem him insufficient and it starts to draw then to paint. In 1962, his/her friend Marcel Broodthaers presents it to Philippe All Saints' day, owner of the Saint Laurent Gallery in Brussels where it exposes for the first time, prefaced by Marcel Lecomte. In Paris, Pierre Alechinsky introduces it near the Gallery of Ranelagh where it exposes in 1964, exposure prefaced by Christiane Rochefort. It is of these years 1964 to 1967 that date its large Indian inks. He remains of 1966 to 1968 with San Francisco where he discovers acrylic painting. He re-examines Kenneth Anger which he had lodged at the time of its first passage to Paris about 1950. He exposes to it in the universities of Berkeley and Stanford, like in galleries of San Francisco and Los Angeles. As from 1968, it settles definitively in Lyon where ensign its wife Sanky Raine. Since 1970, attracted with Ligure Chalice by Theodore Kœnig an old friend, it remains every summer in Italy where it exposes to many recoveries. (bond with personal exposures).

He dies in the Rochetaillée-on-Saone, close to Lyon, on June 30th, 1986.
Since several retrospectives took place on its work, as well in France as in Belgium and Italy.
