Those shared same code name “Shatterbox” as members of the team “Lost Boys and Girls” but were more recently seen alive with their maternal grandparent. However, the whole of the Grey family was carried out by Shiar in order to eliminate any risk from birth of an Omega Mutant or a host of the Phoenix force: only Rachel Grey remains.
Early activities of mutant
The capacities of Jean Grey appear as of his ten years, whereas it reads the thoughts of her friend Annie Richardson dying, struck by a car. Jean feels the spirit of his friend to waver then to die out while dying, and even misses dying with it.During three years, his/her parents call upon specialists to leave Jean his state catatonic, but the only one which reaches that point is the Professor Charles Xavier. This one discovers that it is mutant exceeded by its telepathic capacity. It thus decides psychiquement to block this capacity to let it evolve/move at its rate/rhythm. While remaining in his parents, Jean follows many drives for his capacities telekinesic with the pr. Xavier, before becoming a teenager.
First X-Woman
With adolescence, Jean leaves his parents and attends the school for exceptionally gifted young people of Professor Charles Xavier. It thus joined the team of X-Men under the name of code Strange Girl. She is thus the first woman to join the team.Uncanny X-Men n°2 (November 1963) specifies that Jean can use his telekinesis only on solid matter that its body can itself carry. In the contrary case, the efforts would be too important and it would be likely to disappear.
Uncanny X-Men n°3 (January 1964) reveals that the pr. Xavier and Cyclops are both in love with Jean Grey, but that none wants to precipitate the things. Cyclops fears that its capacities do not escape to him and wounds it. The professor feels related to his duties of leader of the school and on his containment in a wheel chair.
Uncanny X-Men n°7 (September 1964) suggests that Jean is attracted by Cyclops. Its team-member Angel includes/understands it but not Cyclops itself.
Uncanny X-Men n°11 (May 1965) Jean compares the physique of Cyclops with that of the actor Richard Chamberlain.
Jean is then only the member of the team saved at the time of their meeting with the Plague. It must look after Angel, the Deer, Cyclops and Iceberg. Uncanny X-Men n°14 (November 1965) reveals the feeling of impotence of Cyclops to dispute the affection of Jean with Angel.

Uncanny X-Men n°22 (July 1966) maintains the triangle in love between Jean, Angel and Cyclops. Jean gives appointment to Angel but insists that they come to take Cyclops on the way. For finally coming to the frustration of the two men.
Coed
Uncanny X-Men n°24 (September 1966) sees Jean leaving the school for the university that Johnny Storm, the human torch, attends already. It is ready to continue collaboration with X-Men. This time provided several secondary intrigues where Jean gains many student friends. Most present among them, Ted Roberts, is very attracted by his/her new comrade and proves to be the brother of the supervilain Cobalt Man (?).Uncanny X-Men n°27 (December 1966) described X-Men under-manpower with Jean at the university, not being able to find time for X-Men, wounded Angel and Cyclops resigning of its role of chief of troop. The pr. Xavier then tried to recruit Vif-Argent, the Red Sorcière and Spider-Man in replacement, but the three refuse. At the same time however, Jean creates new uniforms for the team.
In Uncanny X-Men n°33 (June 1967), Jean and Cyclops find themselves in duet at the time of a mission. They are téléportés by Dr. Strange with the temple of Cyttorak in North Korea. Believer to request assistance from “Ancient One” it is Strange which was thus contacted. One will remain about it then on the prospect for a pr. Xavier kidnapped by group “Factor Three” of supervilains (Blob, Changeling, Mastermind, Mutant-Master, Unus the Untouchable and the Vanisher).
Uncanny X-Men n°34 (July 1967) confirms that Ted Roberts knows the secret identity of Jean, like its implication with X-Men. Roberts the convaint to beat his/her brother. Uncanny X-Men n°35 (August 1967) sees Jean Grey locating Factor Three in Central Europe by contacting Hurleur. Uncanny X-Men n°36 (September 1967) sees the victory of X-Men over telekinesic Factor Three grace in particular to the increase in the capacities of Jean. The team finds the pr. Xavier in Uncanny X-Men n°39 (December 1967).
Conspirators
Uncanny X-Men n°41 (February 1968) sees Pr X. and Strange girl to act reciprocally in a suspicieuse way and to maintain the secrecies with respect to other X-Men. If the Professor Xavier dies in Uncanny X-Men n°42 (March 1968), the continuation will show that it was acted in fact of Changeling, while the true professor prepared a secret mission. Jean keeps the secret survival of this one, even near his X-Men fellow-members during a time.Uncanny X-Men n°46 (July 1968) watch what seems to be the end of the X-Men era. Fred Duncan, their liaison officer to the FBI (Federal Office off Investigation), considers that the team is a too easy target in front of the exponential growth of the mutant population. He thinks that X-Men would be more effective in individual actions distributed through the country. At the same time, the pr. Xavier wishes to use its field for a charitable cause, giving to each of the five X-Men credits a post of administrator. That ensures that they remain in contact. Jean and Cyclops remain in New York while the Deer and Iceberg move in California. Warren travels as a nomad through the country.
Uncanny X-Men n°48 (September 1968) sees Jean finishing his studies and finding an employment as a model. Its first work is to promote a line of bathing suits. Uncanny X-Men n°49 (October 1968) sees the team of X-Men gathering vis-a-vis Mesmero. Jean is introduced to this occasion with a new team-member Polaris. She quickly become friendly. In Uncanny X-Men n°54, Jean is also introduced to the young brother of Cyclops, Alex Summers who has just finished his studies. He is not long in joining X-Men under the name of code Havok.
Uncanny X-Men n°65 (February 1970) reveals finally that professor Xavier is always alive, in safety in a secret room under the school, hidden with the assistance of Jean. He spends all this time preparing a defense against Z' Nox, an extraterrestrial race come to invade the Earth. Uncanny X-Men n°66 (March 1970) is the last realization devoted to the original history of X-Men.
Reorganization of X-Men
In the series Giant-Size X-Men n°1 (May 1975), a flashback shows us that an extremely powerful mutant had been located by the pr. Xavier in the island of Krakoa. Jean was sent with Cyclops, Angel, Havoc, Iceberg and Polaris to inquire. Only one of them, Cyclops without knowledge, returned since. The Professor was to find his team but the Deer had left the team and Cyclops was not in a position to only assume this mission. Consequently, Professor Xavier recruited novel members to carry help to the veterans. In the order one saw the arrivals of:
- Diablo, localized in Winzeldorf, in West Germany.
- Serval, localized in the town of Quebec, with the Quebec, Canada.
- Hurleur ( Banshee ), localized with Nashville, in the Tennessee, the United States of America.
- Tornado, localized with the Kenya.
- Fire of the Sun ( Sunfire ), localized with Ōsaka, Prefecture of Ōsaka, Kansai, Honshū, Japan.
- Colossus, localized in Ust-Ordynski close to the Lake Baïkal, Siberia, Russia, Soviet Union.
- Sparrowhawk, localized with Camp verde, Arizona, the United States of America.
The new team manages to find their predecessors and, discovering that the required mutant is in fact the island itself (an ecosystem absorbing the mutants), sends it in space.
In Uncanny X-Men n°94 (August 1975), Jean decides to leave the team, at the same time as Angel, Havok, Iceberg, Polaris and Sunfire. The Deer was, him, already party to join the Avengers. Professor Xavier thus had still seven X-Men (Banshee, Colossus, Cyclops, Diablo, Épervier, Serval and Tornade).
Jean appears then in Uncanny X-Men n°97 (February 1976), where it comes to wish a good voyage to Professor Xavier who leaves on vacation to the the Bahamas. It is accompanied by Colossus, Cyclops, Diablo and Tornade. Immediately after the departure of the Professor, the five X-Men remainders are attacked by Havok and Polaris, under the psychic influence of “Erik the Red”. Jean owes his survival with the intervention of Tornado.
Uncanny X-Men n°98 (April 1976) still sees an appointment between Jean and Cyclops wasted by an attack of the Sentinels. Jean finds himself removed by those, with Serval and Hurleur. Their kidnapper, Lang, try them to question but Jean the met in rage by treating it of Nazi. To slap for him only the means was of making insane furious Serval which managed to make them escape from their bonds. Unfortunately, retained on an orbit station they cannot easily flee. Jean and his two companions will have to await the attempt at their X-Men allies in Uncanny X-Men n°99 (June 1976) to see themselves released in Uncanny X-Men n°100 (July 1976).
The saga Phoenix
Of return of space, Jean controls a shuttle during an important solar storm. Jean owes his survival only with the intervention of the known cosmic force under the name of Phoenix. The shuttle is crushed then in the bay jamaïcaine. Phoenix takes the identity of Jean (who is put in suspended animation), with geared down capacities.Phoenix itself thinks of being Jean Grey and continues his relation with Cyclops. Even Professor Xavier does not detect the replacement.
In parallel, a group of mutants joined together in a named assembly the Club of Damnés decides to destroy X-men. the Brain, mutant able to transform the vision of the world with the people to whom it applies her capacity, decides to control Jean with an aim of making to the Black Queen of it.
The Brain thinks that by using Jean Grey, it can sit its supremacy on the Club of Damnés. Taken under the control of the Brain, Jean sees the world which surrounds it as if she lived at the XVIIIe century. It becomes a woman of being able and her friends of vulgar puppets. (Ororo is a slave, Peter a peasant, etc)
During the final battle where X-men and the Club of damnés clash, X-men all are overcome (except for Wolverine and of Tornado). The Brain, which still controls Jean, faces Cyclops on the astral level and kills it in a duel with the sword. Jean is abruptly surprised by the end of the psychic bond which links it with Cyclops and takes again the control of its spirit, destroying by there the illusion created by the Brain.
The end of the bond which links Cyclops in Jean is the beginning of the " Phoenix Noir". Taking again the control of his personality, Jean transforms himself into a Phoenix malefic and destroying. It reduces the Brain to the state of plant. It puts an end to the Club of Damnés with the assistance of X-Men released.
At this point in time the personality of Jean Grey yields in front of that of the Phoenix Noir. Only professor X manages to stop it with his pourvoirs psionic. Then begin a short period of peace for Jean Grey and X-Men. However, in secrecy, the Phoenix Noir takes the step on the soft and generous being which is Jean Grey. It leaves the Earth in secrecy, and, moving with a vertiginous speed, leaves the solar system and ends up finding a star which it devours in order to absorb energy. Drunk of being able, it thus destroys planets around and the billion beings which populated them. In front of this threat, the imperial Garde rear Shi' decides to destroy Phoenix, estimating that its unbounded capacity puts in danger the universe.
Benefitting from a resumption of conscience of Jean Grey, rear Shi' capture Phoenix and X-men in order to judge it. X-Men interpose, but the tumult of the combat again awakes the darkest side of Phoenix and it is only in one start of conscience that Jean/Phoenix commits suicide, thus avoiding destroying rear Shi' and its X-men friends.
This long saga on the decline and the fall of Phoenix, written by Chris Claremont and John Byrne is regarded as one of the best stories of Comics of the years 1970.
Resurrection
The survival of Jean Grey was revealed when the founding members of X-Men formed Factor-X which it joined with its alarm clock of the coma. Meanwhile, Cyclops had married in Madelyne Pryor, double of Jean Grey (in fact its clone). When Cyclops turned over towards Jean, Madelyne felt betrayed. Used by the enemies of X-Men, Madelyne died in a combat the opponent with Jean. It committed suicide after having establishes a telepathic bond with its rival, hoping to involve it in death with it. In vain.Lastly, Cyclops and Jean could set out again of zero and marry. Jean ends up becoming the director of the institute of professor Xavier. The combination of the new responsibilities for Jean, the réémergence of his capacities of Phoenix and the temporary fusion of Scott and Apocalypse separated the couple. Emma Frost benefitted from the advantage and started a telepathic relation with Cyclops. Surprised by Jean, Emma engaged in a psychic fight against it. Cyclops then took distance with Jean and X-Men.
Jean Grey was shortly after captive with Wolverine of a space station (actually the asteroid M) which moved right towards the sun. The contact with the star killed Jean Grey who ressuscita thanks to the capacities of the Phoenix. It made in the same way with Wolverine.
Thereafter, the Xorn traitor who proved to be Magneto (One learned thereafter that it was not Magneto truth…) X-Men attacked and killed Jean Grey of a powerful static head.
This one, failing in the arms of Scott, says to him that she forgave him.
Recently rear Shi' pointed out the Phoenix entity. This one escaped their control and went on Earth there to find a host, and to survive. Finding the body of Jean Grey, it ressuscita to have it again. Jean noted that the entity had been pointed out too early and that it was mentally unstable. It had to face X-Men before téléporter with Serval with the North pole where it asked him to stab it on several occasions. Thus weakening Phoenix, taken again Jean control and plunged in ice-cold water, its body quickly freezing. When X-Men arrived on the spot, Serval says to them that Jean had died, at least as far as it could the being. The Phoenix entity took then the shape of Emma Frost but Jean broke the ice and took again possession of the Phoenix, becoming the Phoenix Noir. This one attacked X-Men but, noting all the love that X-Men had offered to him, Jean took again control: the Phoenix Noir became the Phoenix Blanc. Jean decided to turn over in peace, not without to have seen the eyes of Cyclops for the last time…
Adaptation to the Cinema
Jean Grey was reported missing and supposed died following events Lake the Alkali (see X-Men 2). It is thought that a traumatic experiment lived in childhood activated its latent psychic capacities. His/her parents addressed to professor Charles Xavier by hoping that it could help it to control his capacities. It remained at the institute since, where it is at the same time professor and member of X-Men, while using its gifts and its scientific genius to improve the life of human like that of the mutants. The capacities of Jean in constant evolution never could be entirely evaluated. Only professor Xavier enjoys telepathic capacities more powerful than them his, but he thinks that the day when Jean will be able to control his capacities fully, it will be able to exceed it. If it had not been able to control them, it could have represented a danger to itself like for her mutant comrades and the human race.
In X-Men: The final confrontation, Jean returns but these are the capacities which control it or at least a negative part of its subconscious. In this last opus black Phoenix " allie" to some extent with Magnéto and its brotherhood, although it really does not help it, because Magneto made him believe that Xavier handled it and that when Magneto required of him of the assistance or him an order gave, it says " besides; the entendre" would be believed; , while speaking about Xavier. It is killed by Wolverine when it destroys all, murder that Jean, whereas it was still lucid, after being recovered in Alkali Lake, had asked him to make because its spirit losing control with the profit of the Phoenix, name which its part dominated by its capacities took, whereas Xavier had attached it.
known Faculties: - It has an extremely rare combination of telepathy and telekinesis making it possible to read in thoughts, to project and move the objects by the force of its spirit.
