Jean Galbert de Campistron
Jean Galbert de Campistron , born and died in Toulouse (August 3rd 1656 - May 11th 1723) is a dramatic author French.
He came strong young person to Paris where he knew Jean Racine which gave him councils. He obtained by his protection the place of secretary of the duke of Vendôme, which he followed in all his wars while pointing out himself by his bravery.
He is the author of Tragédie S and operas, among which Jealous Acis and Galatée and disillusioned the , which contributed to make it admit with the French Academy in 1701. He was one of the first mainteneurs of the Académie of the floral Plays, in 1694.
Though wise in its compositions, it had neither the talent to conceive a plan or a situation, nor the poetic force, and never approached its model: it was called the “monkey of Root”. Its works were often printed.
