Jean Galéas Sforza

Jean Galéas Marie Sforza , in Italian Gian Galeazzo II Maria , born with Abbiategrasso (Lombardy) the June 20th 1469 and deceased with Pavia the October 22nd 1494, is a noble Italy N which was duke of Milan in Italy of 1476 with 1494.

Biography

Jean Galéas was the oldest son of Galéas Marie Sforza (1444-1476) and of Bonne of Savoy (1449-1503), itself girl of Louis I {{er}} (1413-1465), duke of Savoy, and Anne de Lusignan (Ca 1419-1462).

He succeeded, at the seven years age, his father Galéas Marie after the assassination of this last the December 26th 1476, initially under the regency of his mother Bonne of Savoy, then under that of his uncle Ludovic Sforza who excludes it from any capacity.

With an aim of consolidating alliance between the Duchy of Milan and the Kingdom of Naples, he married, the February 2nd 1489, Isabelle of Naples (1470-1524), girl of the king de Naples Alphonse II (1448-1495) and of Ippolita Maria Sforza (1446-1484), itself girl of François Sforza and thus aunt de Jean Galéas.

Its death, the October 22nd 1494, at the twenty-five years age, was sotto voce allotted to his/her uncle Ludovic who continued to exert his government as a duke.

About the death of Jean Galéas in 1494, the Italian historian Francesco Guicciardini known as in its work Storia d' Italia (History of Italy)  :

the rumor had been spread that the death of Jean Galéas had been caused by a immoderate coitus; nevertheless, one largely believed in the whole of Italy that he had died not of natural disease nor because of sexual Incontinence, but had been poisoned… one of the royal doctors… affirmed that he had in considering the manifest signs. There was either nobody who doubted that if there had been Poison, it had been managed by the machinations of his uncle Ludovic Sforza

Descent

From its marriage, the February 2nd 1489, with Isabelle of Naples were born:
  • Ippolita (1490-1501)
  • Francesco (1491-1512), called it Duchetto (the small Duke) , count of Pavia, which will become abbot of Marmoutier in Alsace
  • Bona (1495-1557), born three months after death from Jean Galéas and which married, the June 15th 1518, the king Sigismond I {{er}} of Poland.
