Biography

His/her parents leave the Algérie in 1962. They settle with Cers, small village of the Herault located a few kilometres from Béziers. His/her parents registered it with the club of the ACE Béziers (football). Pupils, tiny, juniors, it one by one climbs the levels of the categories of young people. Endowed, it is selected in team of France juniors. Into the club of Béziers, it integrates the senior group, which enables him to evolve/move in D3 then in D2.

It is at this period that the Olympique of Marseilles the reference mark. It signs there in 1975, and as of its first year it is titular in the pro group. In the tread, it gains the Coupe de France 1976, and the OM proposes a four year old to him contract.

In 1980, at the conclusion of its contract, Jean Fernandez joined the Girondins of Bordeaux. There remained two seasons there, under the technical cane of Aimé Jacquet. After this interlude of Bordeaux, the player finds the edges of the Mediterranean. It is thus in Cannes that it posed its bags. Of 1982 with 1984 it carried the colors of the ACE Cannes, but already sommeillait in him the desire to involve, a wish which was exaucé as of the end of its career of player in 1984.

Without transition, and old hardly thirty years, he becomes the director of the training center of the ACE Cannes, succeeding Arsène Wenger. One year later, it takes the orders of the pro group. It takes part thus in the blossoming of Zinédine Zidane, since it is the first to establish it. Jean Fernandez deals with the ACE Cannes until June 1990, before making an unhappy choice while signing with OGC Nice, one of the regional rivals of the ACE Cannes. At this time the town of Nice knows political sudden starts. The mayor of Nice indeed exiled himself in Uruguay, and the OGC Nice encounters financial problems. These problems encourage it to leave the club at the end of six months. In January 1991, it joined the OM. It remains there during two years animated, since he was the assistant of three different trainers: Raymond Goethals, Tomislav Ivić and Franz Beckenbauer! However these two seasons were also marked by two finales of Cut of Europe, that of Bari in 1991, and that of Munich in 1993, which showed the first victory of a French club in Ligue of the Champions.

After its passage to the OM, Jean Fernandez leaves in Saudi Arabia. He joined the club of Al Nasr Riyadh. As of its first season, Al Nasr Riyadh took down the championship of Saudi Arabia and reached the final of the Cut of the League. Jean Fernandez then returns to France in order to deal with his mom, seriously sick. Thus it joined LOSC. But its passage to the head of the northerner club is completed as of the summer 1995. Indeed, after five days, Lille counts only one point (thanks to a tie in Saint-Etienne). By mutual agreement with Bernard Lecomte, the president of LOSC, Jean Fernandez withdraws themselves, and is replaced by Jean-Michel Cavalli. After the death of his mother, it turns over in Saudi Arabia. There remain there four years while gaining many titles. Indeed, after its championship of 1994, he becomes champion of the Persian Golf in 1996 with Al Shabab Riyadh, then gains the Cut of Saudi Arabia in 1997 with the same club. Turning over in the club of Al Nasr Riyadh, it gains the Cut of the cuts of Asia in 1998.

It plans to return in France but the president of the sporting Star of the Sahel recruits it. There remains only one season in Tunisia because he engages with FC Sochaux. Under its impulse, the club which vegetated in D2 goes up in D1 by gaining the championship of France of D2 in 2001. Jean Fernandez then reveals many players like Benoît Pedretti, Mickaël Pagis, and Francileudo Santos which he had discovered with the sporting Star of the Sahel at the time of his passage in Tunisia. After three years in Franche-Comté, it joined FC Metz. It makes assemble the club of D2 in D1. As in Sochaux, it launches young players: Emmanuel Adebayor, Mamadou Niang, like Franck Ribéry, which it then locates with the Brest-native Stade boarder of the National. It starts again even the career of Toifilou Maoulida which was in disgrace with Rennes. In 2005, the Olympique of Marseilles proposes to him to become again trainer of the club phocéen. There remains only one year there carrying out a beautiful second part of season, marked by a final of Coupe de France and one 5th place in championship.

In June 2006, it leaves the Olympique of Marseilles for divergences of character with the sport director Jose Anigo and of pressures coming from the Marseilles entourage. He is from now on trainer with Auxerre. He finishes his first season with the bar of the Burgundian club in the 8th place of the championship, in particular thanks to a good second part of season, at four points only of one qualification for the League of the champions. At the beginning of season 2007/2008, and the departure of its captain Benoit Cheyrou, it estimates that its team has a solid base the four next years.
