Jean Favier

Jean Favier , born with Paris the April 2nd 1932 is a historian French medievist.

Biography

Raise École of the charters, it writes a thesis entitled there an adviser of Philippe the Beautiful one: Enguerran de Marigny and in fate Archivist paleographer in 1956. It obtains then the aggregation of history and becomes member of the French École of Rome.

It is initially preserving with the Public records of 1958 with 1961 before being appointed professor with the college of Orleans for the year 1961-1962. It however quickly obtains a station of attache of research to the CNRS, which it occupies of 1962 with 1964.

It then begins a career of academic as university lecturer to the Université of Rennes (1964-1966), as professor with the Université of Rouen (1966-1969), then in Paris, as director of studies to the practical École of the high studies (1965-1997) and professor with the Université of Paris Sorbonne of 1969 with 1997.

Parallel to its career of teacher-researcher, it occupies of the stations in the administration of the culture, owe in particular managing director of the Archives of France and director of the Public records of 1975 with 1994, then, of 1994 with 1997, president of the National library of France.

He is member of the Académie of the inscriptions and the humanities since 1985 and chair French Commission on UNESCO. He was also director of the historical Revue (1973-1997).

It is also a man of radio, animating in particular on France Inter the emission Question for the History.

He was married with Lucie Favier.
