Jean Durand is a politician French born the January 8th 1865 with Cammazès (Tarn) and deceased the October 11th 1936 with Castelnaudary (Aude).

Biography

Doctor, it was elected city council man of Castelnaudary in 1902 and mayor of Castelnaudary the May 15th 1904 until May 1912, date on which Doctor Jean Mordagne succeeds to him. But with the death of this last he is re-elected mayor until in 1919. In 1909 it is elected General adviser of the Aude, canton of Castelnaudary-South. It remains it until its death. To the General advice of the Aude, Jean Durand was a long time Vice-Président, and permanent Rapporteur of the departmental budget. With the rural elected official, House of Commons Jean Durand, creates the first Country-woman Defense group. In 1933 it is elected President of the Commission of the vote of the women.

Jean Durand was very affected by the death of his only daughter in 1919, and of his little girl in 1925, which deprive it of direct descent. In its testamentary provisions, he asks his wife born Lucie Sompairac (Castelnaudary: October 16th 1868 - September 8th 1945) to bequeath to the Town of Castelnaudary its Field of Jean Saint, where he will die. On this Field was built the college of Castelnaudary which bears the name of college Jean Durand, and the Agricultural College whose grounds of exploitation are those which belonged to Jean Durand, and where he was a compétant farmer and of avant-garde. Mayor of Castelnaudary, Jean Durand was at the base of the creation of the Higher Elementary school, ancestor of the College of Castelnaudary. Radical deputy of the Aude of 1906 with 1921, it had beaten the outgoing deputy Olivier de Laurens-Castelet, Republican-Democrat Liberal.
