Jean Deschamps (actor)

Jean Deschamps (born the June 23rd 1920 and dead the September 17th 2007 with Toulouse) is a Acteur and Director French.

Biography

Originating in the department of the Batch, after his secondary studies with the college of Cahors, Jean Deschamps undertakes in Toulouse a license of philosophy and, simultaneously, follows the courses of painting and architecture of the School of the Art schools, from where it will leave with a gold medal, as well as the classes of the academy of Dramatic art, where it will obtain the first prices of tragedy and comedy.

Engaged by Alexandre Arquillière with the Theater of Drill based with Saint-Etienne, it will see itself entrusting all the first tragic roles (Cid, Ruy Blas, Cinna, Nicomède, Oreste of Andromaque , Oedipus king, etc…).

He will join the troop of the Theater of the Palate of Chaillot directed by Pierre Aldebert, always in charge of the first roles (Cid, Hernani, Olympian Prométhée…).

In collaboration with eminent academics, it founds the international University of the Theater and takes part, in 1952, with creation, by Georges Hacquard, of the collection of discs the sound Encyclopédie (Ducretet-Thomson-Hatchet), recording itself the great roles of its repertory (Grand Prix of the disc of the Academy of the French disc).

It, is then associated with Gerard Philippe, Jeanne Moreau, Maria Mauban, Silvia Monfort, Philippe Noiret, Daniel Sorano, Georges Wilson, one of the principal partners of the team of the Festival of Avignon then popular National theater of Jean Vilar.

Leaving the NPT, it enters to the Comédie-Française, where it makes its Débuts (in 1956) in the role of Titus of Bérénice at the side of Annie Ducaux.

Taking again its freedom, it founds the Theater of the South, national dramatic Center of Languedoc-Roussillon, and creates Festival S (in particular that of Carcassonne), putting in scene large texts like the Song of Roland , or Miréio in Provençal, while programming the restoration (in Carcassonne) even construction (in Sète, Théâtre of the sea Jean-Vilar, or with Beam-of-Provence…) theaters in the open air. It leads the largest actors, the “athletes of the voice” as it defined them, on the boards of the royal castle of Collioure or of the citadel of Sisteron. Its DS slips by of one site to the other without slackening.

It will direct during nearly twenty years the Theater of the City of Carcassonne, baptized since Théâtre Jean-Deschamps, and settles with the castle of Greenhouses, a strong house located close to Limoux, which it will raise of his ruins and will restore.

It will be called with the direction of the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of arts and techniques of the theater (ENSATT), the school of the street Blanche.

the cursed Kings of Maurice Druon will on television make it popular in the role of Charles de Valois. Its last services in scene go back to 1996, with Cid , of which he interpreted the role of Gift Diègue at the side of Francis Huster.

This untiring creator built of his hands on its field the Theater of outdoor of the castle of Greenhouses on the ancient models. This building is distinguished by the Price Structures and Music of the historical Residence , and accommodates each summer of the literary and musical spectacles.

It dies out in September 2007, constant by Michele, his wife, who was also her devoted collaborator.

Jean and Michele Deschamps for 25 years have made extract the stone cut from the career of Saragan to the Beams of Provence, digging in the hill a scene surrounded by immense columns, a monolithic stone theater. When the theater is finished, one of the dreams of Jean Deschamps will be carried out: " to put the spectator vis-a-vis the history in Carcassonne, vis-a-vis the sea with Sète, vis-a-vis nature with Serres, and vis-a-vis the telluric minerality in Baux" (Gerard Jouve, mayor of the Beams, quoted by independent the . 9/19/2007). " One can believe randomly, but it is not interdict to think of the predestination of a place which waits, to live, its créateur." (Jean Deschamps)

Member of the Academy of arts, letters and sciences of Languedoc, he was knight of the Légion of honor and officer of Arts and the Letters.
