Jean Delannoy

Jean Delannoy is a realizer and French scenario writer, born the January 12th 1908 with Noisy-the-Dryness, in Seine-Saint-Denis (France).

This French scenario writer, with which the name was synonymous with “French quality” carried out its most significant films under a literary patronage. Realizer of several melodramas, it had already been success, in particular with Pontcarral, colonel of empire (1943), when it could carry out the Eternal return (1943), with the collaboration of Jean Cocteau. Later, this last adapted for him the Princess of Clèves (1961).

With a little cold classicism of the pastoral Symphony (1946), of the plays is made (according to Sartre, 1947) or of Maigret tightens a trap (1958) succeeded many academic films, even heavy, and which led their realizer towards television as from 1976, then to turn a purely hagiographic trilogy: Bernadette (1988), the Passion of Bernadette (1990) and Marie de Nazareth (1995).
