Jean Dedieu
Jean Dedieu (Arles 1646, Arles 1727) was a sculptor arlésien.
He is the brother of Pons Dedieu, also sculptor who will be the large father of the painter Antoine Raspal and the back grandfather of another painter arlésien: Jacques Réattu.
Biography
Born in 1646 in an large family from Arles, he is pupil of the Jésuite S of the city, then made its Apprentissage in the workshop of Michel Peru with Avignon.In 1670, it leaves to Brest then to Rome. It joined then Paris, where it is employed by Colbert and Mansart with the decoration of the Trianon, of the Hôtel of Vendôme, the gardens of Versailles and the Château of Marly.
Of return to Arles, it carries out successively the Lions of Arles and several statues of the Town hall, in 1673 a statue of Saint Louis for the door éponyme on the quays of the Rhone, in 1676 the sun of bronze placed at the top of the obelisk and in 1677 the Mausolée of Gaspard of Laurens, the archbishop of Arles in a vault of Saint-Trophime.
Between 1678 and 1680, it is with Chartres and intervenes in the repair of the chorus of the Cathédrale. It produced its principal work there: the adulteress .
Again in its birthplace in 1683, it works under the orders of Pierre Puget and deals with the transfer of the Venus of Arles, offered to Louis IV.
He dies in his family home in the center town in 1727.
