Jean Dausset

Jean Dausset , born the October 19th 1916 with Toulouse, is a immunologist French, Nobel Prize of physiology or medicine in 1980. He discovers in 1958 the major Complexe of histocompatibility, which makes it possible today to know compatibility between donor and receiver for a Clerc's Office of body.

Biography

Born with Toulouse, Jean Dausset spent the first years of his life to Biarritz before its family does not install in Paris. He studies with the Lycée Michelet, where he obtains his baccalaureat, option mathematics. He begins studies of Médecine which he must suspend in 1939: he is mobilized. In 1940, it prepares the boarding school of the hospitals of Paris. At once its boarding school out of pocket, it leaves to join the free troops in North Africa.

At the end of the war, at the sides of Marcel Bessis, it carries out its first research on the blood Transfusion. After a passage to Boston and in a regional center of blood transfusion, it is named assistant, then professor of hematology to the Medical college of Paris in 1963. It makes during long years of research in Immunologie in order to show the bond between the Histocompatibilité and the rejection rate of the Clerc's Offices. He discovers in 1958 the major Complexe of histocompatibility or CMH.

Called with the pulpit of experimental medicine to the Collège de France in 1978, it continues to undertake its experiments in its laboratory of the Hôpital Saint-Louis. In the Years 1990, it chairs the cultural Council of the Museum of the languages of the world under the coordination of Marcel Locquin.

Jean Dausset created a foundation, the Center of studies of the human polymorphism (CEPH), which works intensively with the decoding of the human Génome.
