Jean Chiappe
Jean Chiappe (Ajaccio, May 3rd 1878 - November 27th 1940) was a French high-civil servant.
He is director of the General security in the years 1920. He obtains then the station of Prefect of police in the Thirties, where he is very popular. Several successive governments tried to dislodge this senior official close to the right-hand side, in vain. The February 3rd 1934, finally, Daladier, new president of the Council, revokes it. The leagues then organize a great demonstration of support the February 6th, 1934, which degenerates quickly into riot against the republic and the government.
With the autumn 1940, it is made High-Commissioner of France with Raising. The plane which led it to the Lebanon is cut down by error by Italian planes during the battles air and sea of Tarente. Its pilot, Henri Guillaumet, the other members of the crew and the two passengers, Jean Chiappe and his principal private secretary, are killed.
