Jean Cayrol ( Jean Raphaël Marie No5el Cayrol ), born the June 6th 1911 with Bordeaux, deceased in the same city the February 10th 2005 is a Poète, novelist, essay writer and editor French.

As of its adolescence, it is devoted to the writing and founds at the 16 years age a literary review with Jacques Dalleas. It is the way which it chooses after the failure of sound Doctorat in right.

During the Second world war, Jean Cayrol engages in the Résistance (network Confrérie Notre-Dame of the Colonel Rémy). He is stopped in 1942 after being denounced and is off-set N.N (Nacht und Nebel) with the Concentration camp of Mauthausen - Gusen (camp Gusen I). This experiment nourished its Poèmes of the night and the fog .

Jean Cayrol obtained the Prix Renaudot in 1947 for his novel I will live the love of the others , the literary Grand Prix of Monaco in 1968 for the whole of his work and the International prize of the Memory in 1969. He was member of the Académie Goncourt of 1973 with 1995. He also took part, as scenario writer or realizer, with some films and telefilms, including at least five court-measurings. One of the latter, Night and fog , of which he wrote the comment, highly impressed whole generations spectators since 1955. At the beginning of the Years 1950, it enters as editor to the editions of the Threshold, and will remain there until the end of the Années 1970.

Its past and its discrete temperament make him avoid showing itself in company, even after its election with the Goncourt Academy. On the other hand, it is active as editor: its taste and its patience make him discover and publish authors then unknown who will find their way, like Philippe Sollers, Didier Decoin, Roland Barthes, Érik Orsenna, Bertrand Visage, Marcellin Pleynet, Denis Roche or Kateb Yacine. Much of them will follow the example of Jean Cayrol to become important discoverers of literary young talents.

The writing of Cayrol, dominated by the figure of Lazare, returned among deaths, representation of the return of the universe concentrationnaire, always was in a radical modernity, before even the emergence of the “Nouveau novel”. The characters are passive and anonymous vis-a-vis a world deprived of direction, in a detached space of the traditional narrative design.

Jean Cayrol gave itself his downstream, in his writings and other participations, with the development of the term lazaréen to qualify various modern artistic kinds, mainly tinted experiment of the Second world war.
