Jean Casimir of Palatinat

Jean Casimir of Palatinat , born on March 7th, 1543 in Simmern and dead on January 16th, 1592, is the third wire of the Elector Palatine of the Rhine Frederic III of Palatinat.

Wire junior, it reigns only on Neustadt/Haardt.

In 1575, it leads an army of 16 thousand mercenaries to the French princes, of which François d' Alençon, at the time of the Fifth war of religion, against the promise of a pension and Three bishoprices in life annuity. Beaten as of its entry in France by the duke of Own way to Dormans. He manages nevertheless to make his junction with the insurrectionists in Charolais in March 1576, while taking and plundering with the passage Fountain-Frenchwoman, Cîteaux, Nuits-Saint-Georges.

The king of France negotiates immediately, and it obtains with the edict of Beaulieu pension, command of troops, the duchy of Stamps, the payment of its troops, a ransom of six million books, but must give up Évêchés. With the return, it releases its troops, which plunder Burgundy again. It carries as an hostage the superintendent of finances Pomponne de Bellièvre. But nothing is paid to him, and it gives up its title of duke of Stamps in 1577.

In 1576, it founds the university calvinist of Neustatd with the driven out professors of the Université of Heidelberg by his brother, the prince-voter Louis VI of Palatinat.

Louis VI dies in 1583, and it occupies the Régence of its nephew Frederic IV, just born, until its death.
