Biography

He passes his childhood to Étretat. He is caught passion for archeology at 18 years when the remainders of a Gallo-Roman villa are discovered with Étretat. The research of antiquities is only at its beginnings in Seine-Lower, the departmental commission of antiquities exists only since 1818, but already Cochet is named corresponding of this commission following reports/ratios on the excavations of Étretat. It is ordered priest in 1836 and six years later, it is received with the Académie of Rouen, then named inspector of the historic buildings for the department of the Seine-Lower in 1849. Lastly, it is named preserving Musée of antiquities of Rouen. It is an archeologist of ground which insists on the need for supervising the work of the workmen not to miss any detail, but also to examine the objects places from there in their original context.

It was one of the founders of archeology as a science in France, with Boucher of Perthes, and a reference for the Seine-Maritime and its researchers in Archéologie, in spite of its many mistakes in interpretation.

He dies on June 1st 1875.
