Jean Baffier

Jean Baffier is a Sculpteur French born with Neuvy-le-Barrois (Expensive) in 1851 and died in Paris in 1920. In 1864, its amazement in front of the cathedral of Nevers was at the origin of its vocation. He was initially mason stones on the building site of restoration of the cathedral, then he tried a career of sculptor with Paris. He made known himself by figurines in Bronze ( the Vine grower, the Reaper, the Hurdy-gurdyist ) and the tins (vases, candelabra, sets of table linen) decorated with vegetable reasons. He also carried out statues and historical busts of characters (Louis XI, Marat, Jean-Jacques Rousseau…) Regionalistic enthusiast, it was interested in the traditional music and the popular tales of the Berry, and founded in 1886 the Alarm clock of Gaulle , re-examined who lasted until in 1912. He is the author of a collection of accounts berrichons, Our giants of auterfoés (ED. Champion, 1920).

Jean Baffier who was regionalistic with all hairs and equipped with a broad Gallic humor out it common desired to revive the faith of the last ménétriers. After having gathered some hurdy-gurdyists and cornemuseux, it founds in Paris, the March 30th 1888, a company whose head office is with 6, Rue Lebouis in the 14th District. It deposits the statutes of this company by giving him the name of “Company of Gâs of Berry and aultres places of the Center”, it equips it with two emblems: the banner and the stick. The first banner is composed of a wood panel provided with a handle. It carries the proud currency: “Nout' soup' is thin but I soak it in nout' bowl”.
