Jean Arlaud

Jean Arlaud (1896-1938) was a Médecin and a Alpiniste French, member of the first French forwarding in the Himalayas, with the Karakoram, in 1936.

Biography

Although of Savoyard origin, Jean Arlaud becomes large climbing Pyrenean after his discovery of the the Pyrenees at the time of his studies of medicine to Toulouse. He is a pioneer, the the Pyrenees much less being then explored than the the Alps.

In 1914, he is founder of the Ski Toulouse club. June 28th, 1914, it carries out its first first with the Dent of Orlu with Raoul Rives.

In 1920, it founds the Group of the young people (GDJ) which launches out in the climbing in the the Pyrenees. He becomes president of the Pyrenean Federation of Ski.

In 1936, he is the doctor of the first French forwarding in the Himalayas (Karakoram), directed by Henry de Ségogne, with Jean Charignon, Pierre Allain, Raymond Leininger, Jean Carle, Jean Deudon, Marcel Ichac, Louis Neltner, Jacques Azémar and Doctor Jean Arlaud. Forwarding is reported by the film Karakoram of Marcel Ichac.

July 24th, 1938, Jean Arlaud kills himself in mountain, at 42 years, the peak of the Gourgs-White. A peak Jean Arlaud currently honors there its memory (3065 meters) since 1953. Since 1992, a refuge bears also its name to two steps of the big lake of the Wicket, to 2568 m of altitude.
