Jean Antoine Verdier

Jean Antoine Verdier , born with Toulouse the May 2nd 1767, died in 1839, is a general of the French revolution.

He entered to the Régiment of Fère the February 18th 1785. Assistance-of-camp of Augereau, in 1792, with the Armed with the Eastern Pyrenees, it took the sword with the hand, with a battalion of riflemen, a fortified camp defended by 4.000 Spaniards and 80 pieces of ordnance. This feat of arms decided the rendering of Figuières and was worth with the Verdier captain the rank of adjudant-general.

Chief of brigade in 1795, one saw it, the following year in Italy, with the head of three pomegranate battalions, to carry fears it Melodano. Brigadier general on the field of Battle of Castiglione, it was wounded and put out of combat at Arcole and was with all the combat which were delivered until the Paix of Léoben.

In Egypt, it ordered a brigade of division Kléber with the Pyramides, and was one of those which went up to the attack of Saint-Jean-in Acre; it was wounded there of a blow of bayonet. Recalled in France before the evacuation of the Egypt, the Verdier general announced himself constantly in Italy and Austria, of 1801 with 1806. In Spain, it took share with the Combat of Logrono and made the first seat of Saragossa which it had to evacuate after the capitulation of Baylen. Later it seized Girone and several positions considered impregnable.

In 1813 and 1814 it ordered the Franco-Italian army corps under the orders of Eugene de Beauharnais. With the Combat of Aca, reached of a ball which crossed the thigh to him, it remained stoically at its station, in the middle of the grapeshot, supported by its assistance-of-camp. The February 8th 1814, the Battle of Mincio, the count Verdier, with division Fressinet, strong of 5.000 men approximately, resisted all the day the efforts of 18 000 Austrians, and ends up forcing them to pass by again the river.

The Restauration put it in non-activity by sending the to him Croix of Saint-Louis.

The January 17th 1815, it was decorated with large' the cross of the Legion of Honor. He was already commander of the Couronne of Iron.

During the Hundred Days, it was named Pair and ordering the 8th military division (Marseilles). After the Battle of Waterloo, he managed to preserve at the France intact Toulon and without plundering.

The ordinance of August 1st 1817 put it at the retirement, and after 1830 it was replaced on the framework of reserve, but it returned soon in the retirement.

The Emperor had given him the title of count the March 19th 1808.

Mrs Verdier is quoted in the relations of the French campaigns like a heroin. She accompanied her husband on the battle field.
