Jean-Victor Schnetz
Jean-Victor Schnetz is a French painter born with Versailles in 1787 and died in Paris in 1870.
Biography
Raise David, friend of Géricault, Jean-Victor Schnetz shared his life between the France and the Italy which he had discovered in his youth and with which he had fallen in love. He carried out a brilliant career: elected in 1837 with the Academy of the Art schools, it was called, in 1841, to succeed Ingres as director of the Académie from France to Rome and preserved this station until in 1846. It found it one second time between 1853 and 1866.It could conquer glory in full battle between “traditional” and “romantic” by inventing an average way consisting in treating in a traditional way of the picturesque subjects drawn from the daily life from the peasants and Italian brigands.
