Jean-Pierre Dantan
Jean-Pierre Dantan, known as the Young person (Paris 1800 - Baden-Baden 1869) is today more known than his/her brother Antoine Laurent Dantan, known as the Elder one, as a sculptor of caricatures and portraits of its contemporaries .

Attention: the brothers Dantan, both French sculptors of the XIXe century, are sometimes confused, even by serious sources!
Formed initially by the training near his/her father wood-carver, Jean-Pierre Dantan entered to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the fine arts of Paris in 1823 and followed the courses of the sculptor François-Joseph Bosio. It launched out quickly, as from 1826, in the caricature drawn and carved after the admired creation of the statuette representing César Ducornet (1805-1856) under the realistic aspect of a poet pauper.
It carried out hundreds of small busts from 20 to 60 centimetres which were marketed either plasters some, or out of bronze: it exposed its caricatures and portraits of the company of its time in a room of the Passage of the Panoramas, known as " Dantan" museum;.
These portrait-loads representing the celebrities of the policy (Talleyrand, William Douglas, Hamilton, Louis-Philippe…), of arts (Beethoven, Paganini, Made green, Liszt…) and of the letters (Victor Hugo, Balzac, the Delavigne brothers…) will be a great success: one finds them today in the museums of many countries (in particular with the Musée Carnavalet in Paris) and in private collections, especially in France and England, and its statuettes always appear in the catalogs of sales of objects of Article.
Its work is to be brought closer to that of its contemporary Honore Daumier, sculptor, painter, caricaturist and lithographer French (1808 - 1879).
It had as raises Prosper d' Épinay and Delloye.
It is buried with the Cimetière of the Father-Lachaise (Division IV), like his brother, in the family concession decorated by the two brothers (medallions of Dantan Père and young Dantan by Antoine-Laurent and medallions of Mrs. Dantan and Dantan the elder one by Jean-Pierre).
The artistic line of Dantan was prolonged with Edouard-Joseph Dantan (1848-1897), known minor academic painter for works like " The workshop of the sculpteur" , " An Interval with the Comédie-Française " or " " A corner of Salon".
