Biography
Jean-Pierre Bekolo Obama, author-realizer, producer and assembler teach also the cinema with the the United States. He was professor with the University off North Carolina in Chapel Hill, with the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Duke University. He is revealed with Cannes 1992 with his film Quartier Mozart which he carries out at hardly 25 years. The jury chaired by the French producer Daniel Toscan of Plantier declares: “it is not African cinema, but a manner of making cinema in Africa”. This film obtained many prices with Locarno, Montreal, Ouagadougou and a nomination with the British Awards at the sides of Reservoir Dogs of Tarantino. For the 100 years of the cinema, it carries out the Plot of Aristote , a film pertaining to a series ordered by the British Film Institute in which took part Martin Scorsese, Stephen Frears, Bernardo Bertolucci and Jean-Luc Godard. The film critic Aboubacar Sanogo USC qualifies Bleeding Them , the new film of Jean-Pierre Bekolo of film, of avant-garde quite simply. Narrative avant-garde, avant-garde in terms of approach. It is the birth of a “cinema of the body” in Africa. Of a cinema of science fiction. The idea to have two young girls accessory and connected like " avengers" for the continent and against the rotted political community is quite simply brilliant. Its homage to the passage to Tarantino and the contemporary cinema of action (Charlie' S Angels, but especially the version Hong-Kongaise So Close ) are absolutely the welcome, but it is much further flirtant with the fantastic one, the horror (polygenerism) and of course the policy. And of course traces of author whom the author leaves on the way as regards cinema of reflexivity (born from a deep reflection) and his accounts that it does not finish any regulating with his father (the police force) though this time the police force is not completely made have as in Aristote. In short, imagination, creativity and the innovation (especially freshness and the feeling not to have seen anything similar). Jean-Pierre creates also video installations, as that which it exposes to the Museum of the Branly Quay in Paris within the framework of the exposure " Diaspora" heading AFRICAN IN SPACE. On a device of several screens, organized in circle, short films are diffused: discussions with various people resulting from this African diaspora in the United States. These people incarnate all of “successes stories” in their host country. All, they seem to have carried out their dream and to nourish another of them: to turn over to Africa… In this work, the African diaspora constitutes a human community, which works on a mysterious project…. It could be a question of sending African in space, as the character shows it who floats above the head of the visitors…
