Jean-Michel Raimond

Jean-Michel Raimond (born in 1955 with Orleans, -) is a Physicien working in the field of the quantum Mécanique.

Biography

Entered with the National university (ENS) in 1975, its first research task at the conclusion of a DEA of atomic physics and molecular door on the Superradiance and the Atoms of Rydberg. Incorporated, he becomes researcher at CNRS. He supports his thesis of State in 1984 entitled " Radiative properties of the atoms of Rydberg in a cavity résonnante". From 1988, he is professor with the Université Pierre and Marie Curie. Since 1994, he is member of the Academic institute of France. He is currently Directeur of the Department of Physics of the National university, and member of the quantum electrodynamic group in cavity within the Laboratoire Kastler-Brossel of the Department of Physics of the ENS, directed by Serge Haroche.

Jean-Michel Raimond is specialist in atomic physics and quantum optic. It was interested in the Atomes of Rydberg, atomic states giant that their sensitivity to the microwaves returns adapted particularly well to fundamental studies on the Interaction matter-radiation. It showed that these atoms, coupled to superconductive cavities containing some Photons, constitute ideal systems to test the laws of the quantum Décohérence and to show that it is possible to carry out promising operations of quantum Logique for the treatment of the Information.

Jean-Michel Raimond is the son of Michel Raimond, former Professor with the Sorbonne of French Littérature.
