Jean-Marie Klinkenberg

Jean-Marie Klinkenberg is a Linguiste and Belgian semiotician born with Verviers in 1944, Professor with the University of Liege, Jean-Marie Klinkenberg teaches there the Sciences of the language, and in particular the Sémiotique and the Rhétorique, but also the French-speaking cultures. He developed an important part of his work rhetorics and semiotics within the Groupe µ, team interdisciplinary whose work makes authority. It is within this framework that it contributed to a reorientation of semiotics in a cognitive and sociological direction, prospect which also chairs its work on the peripheral cultures.

He is member of the royal Académie of Belgium and of the High council of the Francophonie. He is president of the International Association for Visual Semiotics.

Signatory of the Proclamation for the Walloon culture in 1983, it advised with the Prime Minister Guy Spitaels to modify name " Executive wallon" by Walloon Government like " District council wallon" by Walloon Parliament, but did not manage to be followed on the transformation of " Area wallonne" in " State wallon". He was at that time President of the Superior council of the French language of Belgium.
