Jean-Marie De Koninck

Jean-Marie De Koninck (1949 -) is a Mathématicien Québécois. He is Professor with the Université Laval of Quebec since 1972.

Biography

He is the son of the philosopher and theologist Charles De Koninck and the brother of the geographer Rodolphe De Koninck and of the philosopher Thomas De Koninck.

Work mathematical

Its principal fields of research are in analytical Théorie of the numbers, in the fields of the distribution of the prime numbers, of the factorization of the numbers, the asymptotic behavior of the arithmetic functions, and the function zeta of Riemann.

He is the author or joint author of more than 50 articles published in scientific magazines with reading panel.

Side Popularization of sciences, he is the author of televised series of 29 episodes to make mathematics accessible to all, It is mathematical! , as well as scientific spectacle of popularization named ShowMath which belongs to the program Sciences and Mathématiques in Action of the Laval University.

Since 2005, he is the president of the mathematical Association of Quebec.

Social and sporting work

He is the initiator in 1984 and chair it Opération Red nose, dedicated to raccompagnement at them people in a state of intoxication during the time of the Festivals, which counted in 2005 more 45  000 voluntary and more than one million raccompagnements since its foundation. Operation Red nose annually collects in gifts more 1  million Canadian dollars which are given to organizations of sport amateur.

Former swimmer of competition and follower of the Triathlon, it is one of the founders of the team of competition of the Rouge and Gold in Natation (sporting team of the Laval University), was trainer there and is the president. In 1978-1979, it obtained the price of “male Trainer of swimming of the year” of Canadian Inter-University Sport .

He moreover was analyst for the company Radio-Canada at the time of competitions of elites televised in swimming, inter alia at the time of 7 presentations of the Olympic Games of summer. He founded the Association of the trainers of swimming of Quebec and is member of the Temple of re-elected swimming of Quebec.

In November 2005, it is named chairman of the board of the Association of the trainers of Canada by the minister of state with the sports, honourable the Stephen Owen.

Honors

  • 2004 - Price Adrien-Pouliot, decreed by the mathematical Company of Canada for its “constant and significant contributions to the education of mathematics in Canada”

  • 2006 - Scientific of the year by the company Radio-Canada for “its exemplary role in the promotion and the development of mathematics to the country”
