Jean-Luc Carbuccia

Jean-Luc Carbuccia was born with Bastia in 1808 and died in Gallipoli on July 17th 1854.

Its family exiles itself on the continent while seeking to flee the domination gênoise. His/her grandfather and his father illustrated within the Régiment “Royal Corsican” where serve as many notable exiled.

It enters to Saint-Cyr military school in 1825 and fate Sous-lieutenant two years later. Present at the unloading of the task force of the Algeria in 1830, it takes part in all the combat of the beginnings of the conquest. It regains the France later six years with the rank of Capitaine. In 1839, it regains with its request the Algérie. Three wounds, four quotations and the Cross of chevalier of the Legion of Honor testify to its qualities of soldier.

The August 31st 1848, it takes the command of the 2 {{E}} foreign Régiment in Algérie and receives the first Drapeau Régiment. Particularly appreciated by its men, it knew to draw a blind obedience from it. It will be illustrated at its head, in particular at the time of the catch of Zaatcha.

In 1854, named General, it is affected with Paris. But the Crimean War bursts, it requires to be sent there. It takes part in it in the head of the Brigade of Foreign legion before dying of the Choléra in front of Gallipoli in 1854.

In addition to to have been a large military chief, the Général Carbuccia (Colonel at the time) was set on Archéologie. Under its orders, its Regiment, the 2 {{E}} foreign Régiment will conduct campaigns of excavation in Algérie, in the town of Lambèse. This city was the old military capital of the Roman Numidie. The Colonel Carbuccia reconstituted moreover the geography of the old Roman province.
