Jean-Louis Murat knows a difficult beginning of career marked by several musical experiments at the end of the Années 1970 - in particular in a transitory group named " Clara" - but without a future. An suicide attempt is allotted to him following the exit with the whole beginning of the Years 1980 of its disc " Suicide Z you the people is mort" which knows only very little echo near the public. The radio operator diffusion of the title is then stopped on Europe 1.

A long crossing of the desert follows then of which it leaves only many years afterwards with the first extract resulting from its album " Cheyenne autumn " appeared in 1989, " If I were to miss toi" , which gives him finally opportunity of tasting with a certain success (success renewed with two other extracts of this album, " The angel déchu" and " To keep you close to moi"). Two years later, individual " Collar of the Cross Morand " and " Feeling nouveau" (this last returning to the Signal 50), resulting from the disc " the raincoat " , a success even more important gains.

But it is " Regrets" , a duet with Mylène Farmer, which does it really and definitively to know near more many people, with nearly 40 years, in 1991 3rd with Signal 50 and more than 300.000 sold copies). Since then, its albums return regularly in Signal 20 to France.

Viscéralement attached to its Auvergne where it resides, nature and the countryside provide him a very personal poetic inspiration. Very prolific, excel guitarist, singer with the single stamp, he writes, produced and publishes more than one album per annum. The majority of its albums are followed by long rounds characterized by an interesting musical work, no round not having resembled the preceding one. To help it in this task of creativity and to coordinate the whole of displacements, he likes to surround himself by close relations and his family.

Musicians

Since the disc " the Mujik and his wife " in 2002, Jean-Louis Murat works with the bass player Fred Jimenez (ex- ACE Dragon) and the beater Stephan Reynaud. With them, it records also " Lilith" (2003), the DVD made up of new pieces " Perfume of acacia to the garden " (2004), " Moscow " (2005) and " Taormina " (2006). In 2004, he writes the words and sings in duet with the American singer Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields) on the musics of Fred Jimenez for the album signed Murat, Jimenez, Charles " has Bird One has Pear ". Murat also accommodated prestigious collaborators on its recent discs, like the trumpet player of jazz Stephan Belmondo, the arranger of cords of the Tindersticks or the singer Camille, chorus-singer as a chief on " Lilith " and " Perfume of acacia ". Its last album to date, Charles & Léo , mark the return to the keyboards and arrangements of Denis Clavaizolle, one of the principal craftsmen of Dolorès (1996).

Position on Internet

Jean-Louis Murat, who signs his own albums under pseudonym, declared with the newspaper Le Monde : " The Web makes people hypocritical, it encourages to take pseudonymes" . In this interview, the artist emits a radical criticism of the remote loading and Internet in general:

" I affirm that the crisis of the disc is a lure, it does not exist: the offer is intact, the increasing demand. But, each night, in the hangars of the music, the half of stock is stolen. Imagine the reaction of Renault vis-a-vis delinquents who would force the door daily to conceal the cars! "
