Jean-Joseph Cohen

Born on December 24th, 1929 with Paris deceased on August 4th, 2007 in MOROCCO, Jean-Joseph Cohen is high in a Jew family whose father is shipping agent. After secondary studies with the College Lyautey of Casablanca and with the College Michelet de Vanves, it enters to the Medical college of Paris where it militates with RDR. Faithful support of France Observer, it adheres as of their foundation to the Center of action of the Independent Lefts (1953), to UGS (1957) and to PSU (1960).

Intern of Paris in 1958, his speciality of gynecologist obstetrician leads it to engage in favor of the women's right to procreation (contraception, abortion then procreation médicalement assisted). He is thus founding member of the Family planning, then his vice-president, chair French company of gynecology, French company of study of the fertility, Group of study of the FIV in France and European Company of the human reproduction.

In 1963, its sensitivity of left on these questions there as about others of more general nature leads it to support his/her friends of France Observer then confronted with financial problems. It thus accepts the presidency of the Association of the Friends of the Observer, company equipped with a capital of 150.000 francs (divided into actions acquired by subscribers) and charged reducing the weight of its debt and with reinforcing the bonds with the assistantship. The same year, he becomes chief of a private clinic gynaecological and attached faculty while installing his gynaecological cabinet to Paris. In 1965, it enters to the Board of directors of the Nouvel Observateur. Director of the review Contraception-Fertility-Sexuality as from 1968, it takes the direction of the Marignon private clinic as from 1969. In 1978, it is in charge of teaching at the medical colleges of the Valley-of-Marne and Paris VI. The following year, it takes the head of Gyn-Obs. After the victories obtained as regards contraception, he fights especially for the legalization of the euthanasia.

He leaves the memory at those which one known in particular his patients and patients, of the parents in waiting of a so much hoped child, of an eminent doctor whose demanding practice could reward those which had understood that the hope can be born sometimes in the simple faith in the man.
