Jean-Jacques Henner

Jean-Jacques Henner (March 5th 1829 with Bernwiller - July 23rd 1905 with Paris) is a painter French.

Biography

Wire of Alsatian peasant, it is exiled in Paris at the time of the economic and food serious attack which undergoes the Alsace in the years 1846 - 1847. It enters to the École of the Art schools in 1848 and attends the workshop of Michel Martin Drolling. It carries large the Prix of Rome in 1858 and remains five years with the Villa Médicis.

He is the author of an abundant work present in many museums. He has a reputation of portraitist and draftsman except par, appreciated of alive sound. There remained all its life with the variation of the artistic evolutions of its time. Its best tables, Alsace, lost province or Fabiola with the red veil , date from the Années 1870 with 1890. In 1889, it is elected member of the Académie of the Art schools.

The National museum Jean-Jacques Henner, to the 43 Which occurred of Villiers in the 17th district of Paris, is devoted to its work and that of the painter Louis Edouard Dubufe (1853 - 1909), of which it occupies the old workshop.
