Jean-Jacques Birgé
Jean-Jacques Birgé , born on November 5th, 1952 in Paris, is an independent French artist, at the same time type-setter of music (cofounder of an Instantaneous Musical Drama), film producer ( the Night of the seal , Sarajevo has Street Under Siege , Sniper ), multi-media author ( Carton , Machiavel , Alphabet ), sound designer (Cd-Roms, Web sites, Nabaztag, etc), founder of the label of discs GRRR. Specialist in the relationship between the sound and the image, it was one of the first synthesists and creator of the Home studio in France since 1973, and with a d.m.i the precursor of the return to the movies-concert in 1976 and the inventor of the music by the way. As from 1995, it becomes the sound designer more in vogue of multi-media and the specialist in the interactive musical composition.
Biography
After his studies with the Idhec (ancestor of the Femis), Jean-Jacques Birgé impassions himself for the sound and the image, and particularly for their potential to produce direction and to create emotions.
In 1975 it founds the label of discs GRRR and in 1976 the group an instantaneous musical drama (with Bernard Vitet and Francis Gorgé). It composes for the cinema (Igor Barrère, Dominique Belloir, Dominique Cabrera, Pierre Desgraupes, Levy Pierre-Oscar, Pierre Morize, François Reichenbach, Francoise Romand, Jacques Rouxel, Raoul Sangla, Marcel Trillat, the Cineclub Albert Kahn…), the dance (Jean Gaudin, Karine Saporta…), photography (Arles), the theater, the radio, the literature read aloud, and records about thirty albums. On scene he interprets the film music dumb men (26 with the repertory since 1976) as well as he improvises or produced spectacles multi-media. For K with Richard Bohringer it is nominated with the 9ièmes Victoires of the Music.
With the cinema, twenty years after the Night of the seal , it carries out Vis-à-vis: Idir and Johnny Clegg has capella . It obtains a BAFTA (British Academy Award) and the price of the jury of the festival of Locarno 1994 on a purely collective basis for Sarajevo: street under seat has, while short-measuring Sniper is projected in 1000 cinemas.
Specialist in the instruments of synthesis, it is attracted by new technologies which make it possible to invent amazing objects or iconoclasts. With this CD-ROM it inaugurates a new direction of work centered on the generative and interactive writing which makes it possible to the player to discover each time a new interpretation (on-line and off-line). He regularly collaborates in the sites of creation lecielestbleu.com (with Frederic Durieu) and flyingpuppet.com (with Nicolas Clauss). With Bernard Vitet, it composes the music of the play the Ball , price SACD of interactive creation 2002. For lecielestbleu.com it also receives the price SCAM 2002 of best Internet site as well as NarrowCast Content Award. For Ulchiro on flyingpuppet.com, it is the price of the Center Pompidou in FlashFestival 2002. somnambules.net, with Nicolas Clauss and Didier Silhol, receives the special price of the jury of Sénef 2003 (Seoul Net Festival), the price of creation new media Vidéoformes 2004 (Clermont-Ferrand), the 1st price France Telecom R & D Oone (Festival Art Rock'n'roll, St Brieuc), price SACD of Interactive Creation 2004, the price ARS Electronica Net Vision/Net Excellence Honorary Mention 2004 (Austria). In 2005, it is nominated among the 5 strangest sites in Best off 10 years of Yahoo!
In margin of daily sound blog, Birgé written in several reviews and teaches the reports/ratios of the sound and the image.
It is the sound designer of Nabaztag, the communicating rabbit (Purple). Its last works are the Doors (interactive video installation with Nicolas Clauss) and Nabaz' mob (opera for 100 communicating rabbits with Antoine Schmitt).
Its last album, Establishment of a sky of alternation , is a duet with the writer Michel Houellebecq.
