Jean-Guy Sylvestre

Jean-Guy Sylvestre , sometimes simply called Guy Sylvestre , born with Sorel-Tracy the May 17th 1918, is a Critique arts person, Bibliothécaire and Quebec senior official.

He was raises college Sainte-Marie of Montreal, then with the Université of Ottawa where he obtains his Master off Arts in 1942. He begins, as of this time, a literary activity of criticism, in particular for the newspaper the Right , but founds also his own newspaper. In 1944-1945, he works parallel to World War II Wartime Information Board.

As of 1941, it publishes its first book, a biography of Louis Francœur, but it is especially pointed out by its Anthologie of the Canadian poetry of French expression in 1943.

Of 1945 with 1950, he is private secretary of Louis the St. Lawrence, Prime Minister of Canada of 1948 to 1957. Of 1956 with 1968, he is associated director of the Bibliothèque of the directing Parliament then of the National library of Canada of 1968 with 1983.

Member of the Académie Canadian-Frenchwoman of 1965 to 1983, it belongs to the royal Société of Canada and several non-profit making organizations, so much at the national level (Canadian Library Association, Ontario Library Association) that international (Conference of the directors of national libraries, International federation of associations of librarians and institutions).

He is officer of the Ordre of Canada, holder of the Médaille of the jubilee of the Queen Elizabeth II, holder of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland and prize winner of Canadian Public Service Outstanding Public Award Service.
