Jean-Germain Drouais

Jean-Germain Drouais (November 25th 1763 - July 15th 1788), painter French of the school of Jacques Louis David, born from a family of painters with Paris, died at twenty-five years.

He was the son of François-Hubert Drouais, portraitist known.

He received the Prix of Rome in 1784.

The Musée of Louvre has its two principal tables:

  • Cananéenne with the feet of Christ
  • Marius in Minturnes ; when this last work appeared, it excited a universal enthusiasm, was admired of Goethe, and inspired the tragedy of Antoine-Vincent Arnault on the same subject.
