Jean-Georges Ier of Saxony , voter of Saxony, Count Palatine of Saxony and margrave of Misnie of 1600 with 1656.

Biography

Born the March 5th 1585 with Dresden, wire of Christian Ier of Saxony and Sophie de Brandebourg, Jean-Georges Ier of Saxony succeeds his/her brother Christian II of Saxony in 1611.

He married in 1604 Sybille of Wurtemberg. Widower in 1606, it married in 1607 Madeleine of Prussia (1586 - 1659), (girl of Albert Frederic of Prussia).

Last nine children come from this marriage:

* Sophie of Saxony (1609 - 1671), in 1627 it married the landgrave Georges II of Hesse-Darmstadt
* Elisabeth of Saxony (1610 - 1684), in 1630 it married the duke Frederic III of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp
* Christian of Saxony-Merseburg (1612 - 1612)
* Jean-Georges II of Saxony
* Auguste of Saxony-Weissenfels
* Christian of Saxony (1612-1612)
* Madeleine of Saxony (1617 - 1668), in 1634 it married Christian d' Oldenbourg. Widow in 1647, it married in 1652 Frederic-Guillaume II of Saxony-Altenbourg
* Maurice of Saxony-Zeitz (1619-1681)
* Henri of Saxony (1622 - 1622)

With died of his/her father Christian Ier of Saxony (1591), his distance cousin Frederic-Guillaume of Saxony-Altenburg was named regent, this one controlled on his behalf and that of his/her two brothers until his death, in 1602. On this date Jean-Georges Ier of Saxony only reigned.

So initially it was the ally of Ferdinand II (chief of the catholic party), it joined the party protesting in 1631 during the Guerre Thirty Year old. It will change new once of camp in May 1635, following the Paix of Prague.

He dies in Dresden the October 8th 1656

Jean-Georges Ier of Saxony belonged to the second branch of the House of Saxony. He is the ascending one of Emmanuel of Saxony, chief current of the House of Saxony.
