Jean-Frederic Bernard , bookseller of Amsterdam, born towards 1683, dead in June 1744, is a French writer.

French refugee, originating in Provence, it is entitled factor of the company of the booksellers of Geneva in Amsterdam of 1705 with 1711. He is the author of translations, of critical editions, as well as historical and literary works.

There are of him important publications:

  • Collection of voyages to North , 1715 - 1738, 10 volumes in-12
  • Ceremonies and religious habits of all the people représésentés by figures drawn by Bernard Picart , 1723 - 1743, 9 folio volumes
  • old and modern Superstitions, vulgar prejudices which induced the people with uses and contrary practices with the religion , 1733 - 1736; work reproduces with some modifications by Bannier, Paris, 1741 and reprinted with additions, by Claude Prudhomme in 13 folio volumes, 1807 - 1810.
