Jean-François de Troy

Jean-François de Troy is born with Paris on January 27th 1679. He is the son of the portraitist François de Troy (1645 - 1730) who encouraged it to make a stay in Italy, required passage for any painter of the time, 1699 with 1706.

It is at the same time a “painter of history”, i.e. it treats of historical subjects, mythological, moral or religious, but it is also a painter which can be lighter, with scenes of the daily life, in the line of Watteau.

It is received with the Academy in 1708. Between 1724 and 1737, he works with Versailles and Fontainebleau. He creates models of Tapisserie S for the Manufacture of the Goblins ( Histoire of Esther , Histoire of Jason ). He receives the 1st price of the Big competition of 1727 organized by the duke of Antin, Directeur of the Building industries, jointly with François Lemoyne, for his table the Repos of Diane (oil on fabric, 130 * 196, museum of the Art schools of Nancy).

In 1738, It is named Directeur of the Academy of France of Rome, city where it dies on January 26th 1752.
