Jean-François Tarnowski (Paris, May 25th, 1948 - Paris, March 16th, 2005) is a film theorist and critic, as well as a Scénariste French.

Biography

After academic works with the Sorbonne and Vincennes, it obtains its control of teaching in philosophy in 1971. The same year, it publishes its first article entitled " Specificity of the cinéma" , in the review Modern times .

Until 2001, he collaborates in several magazines and reviews, of which Positif , the fantastic Screen , Starfix , 20 Years , the Review of the cinema , Psychanalyse at the University and Simulacres . In same time, he teaches the Mise in scene at the university, with the University of audio-visual realization (Esra), then with the international École of audio-visual creation and realization (Eicar).

In 1987, it supports its thesis of doctorate of third cycle, entitled " Tests of esthetics and philosophy of the cinema - For a general theory of art cinématographique". It also has Co-writing with Florent Emilio Siri the scenario of the film Wasps' nest (2002).

His/her friends and its pupils called it “  Tarno  ”  .

Its theories

“  Tarno  ” will have marked a whole generation of students and film enthusiasts. Its theoretical approach carried mainly on the film analyzes “  plan by plan  ”, analyzes through which it showed how the Cinéaste S manage (in an invisible way) to make pass from the emotions… thanks to the technique. The other grid of reading which it readily applied to the cinema was that of the Psychanalyse, with a clear predilection for the Mélancolie (at Hitchcock, Truffaut and Spielberg in particular, series of realizers in which it saw a filiation).
