Jean-François Sirinelli

Jean-François Sirinelli , born in Paris on June 11th, 1949, is a historian French specialist in the political Histoire and cultural of the France to the {{S|XX|E}}. It is Professor of the universities to the institute of political studies of Paris and director of the Center of history of Sciences Po.

It is one of the principal representatives of the slope politist of the French cultural history, which it contributed to develop by his work on the Histoire of the intellectuals, the Mass culture and France of the Années 1960.

Origins and formation

Jean-François Sirinelli is the son of Jean Sirinelli, university specialist in traditional Greek literature.

He is initially received first with the aggregation of history. In 1975, it enters in the Center of comparative analysis of the political systems of the university Paris-I Pantheon-Sorbonne.

In parallel, it is with Nanterre the pupil of Jean-Jacques Becker and Rene Rémond. It begins in February 1974 under the direction of this last its thesis of State, Khagneux and normaliens of the Twenties. Political history of a generation of intellectuals (1919-1945) , constant in 1985 and published in 1988 with the editions Beech. It had reached in 1979 the station of assistant in Modern history.

Career

Of 1987 with 1998, it is Professor of the universities in Modern history with the university Lille-III Charles-of-Gaulle, like professor in Institute for French Studies of the Université of New York.

It becomes in 1998 professor of the universities in political and cultural history of the 20th century to the institute of political studies of Paris. It succeeds in 2000 since Pierre Milza the head of the Center of history of Europe 20th century (CHEVS), famous in Center of history of Sciences Po.

He wrote many works. He in particular pointed out himself for his analyzes of the relations and engagements of the Intellectuel S French, for example with his cross biography of Jean-Paul Sartre and Raymond Aron, Two intellectuals in the century (1996). Among its research topics, he studied the concept of generation, France of the “ sixties ” and the baby-boomers, the epistemology of the cultural Histoire and the history of time present.

He is also president of the French Comité of historical sciences, vice-president of the Association for the development of the cultural history, deputy manager of the historical Revue , and deputy manager of the collection the Node gorgien with the university Presses of France.
