Jean-François Revel , of his true name Jean-François Ricard (born the January 19th 1924 with Marseilles, dead the April 30th 2006 with the the Kremlin-Bicêtre, the Valley-of-Marne) is a Philosophe, writer and journalist French.

Biography

Jean-François Revel is born in 1924 in Marseilles, in a family of inhabitant of Franche-Compt3e origin. After studies in preparatory classes with the College of the Park to Lyon, it integrates the National university in 1943. During the Second world war, Jean-François Revel engages in the Résistance to Paris under the orders of Auguste Anglès. Once graduate of the National university of the street of Ulm and aggregate of Philosophy, he teaches in Algérie (still French department), abroad (with the Mexico and in Italy), then in France, with Lille, until 1963. It Marie first once with Yahne Toumelin (painter Frenchwoman) of which he will have a son and a girl: Matthieu Ricard, buddhist monk, writer, near to the Dalaï Lama and Eve Ricard, writer.

It is devoted then to its career of journalist and writer. In 1967, he marries in second weddings the journalist Claude Sarraute, girl of the writer Nathalie Sarraute. Lampoonist and essay writer, he collaborates in France-Observer , then becomes at the end of the Années 1970 directing of the Express train . He also collaborated as leader-writer in radio stations: Europe 1 (1989-1992), RTL (1995-1998). As from 1982, he is chronicler in the newspaper the Point . Socialist until 1970, it breaks by publishing its first political test with great success, Neither Marx nor Jesus , which will be translated in more than 20 languages. In 1976, it publishes totalitarian Temptation , then one year later the New Censure .

In addition to the policy and philosophy (subject of its first test, Why philosophers and of sound History of Western philosophy. Of Thalès to Kant ), Jean-François Revel also wrote on the literature ( On Proust , 1960 and 1997), the history of art ( the Eye and knowledge , 1998) and the gastronomy ( a feast in words , 1985).

He is elected the June 19th 1997 with the French Academy with the 24e armchair. The same year, it publishes its memories under the title the Robber in the house empties like the Monk and the Philosopher , a dialog with his son Matthieu Ricard, drawn with 350,000 specimens in France and translated into 21 languages.

Jean-François Revel dies on April 30th, 2006 and is buried on May 5th with the Cimetière of Montparnasse (the 10th division).

Thought

One owes him the theorization in 1979 of the right of interference.

After its rupture with socialism, it oscillates between the current Libéral and the Néoconservatisme (See for example How the Democracies finish or anti-American Obsession ). In the intellectual mediums, Jean-François Revel was one of the French main adversaries of the Marxisme, whose weight led it to move away from the political left.
