Jean-François O\' Mahony
The count Jean-François O' Mahony (born the October 7th 1772 with Calais - died in 1842 with Boulogne-sur-Mer) was a French general of Irish origin, knight of the Ordre of Saint Louis, which made career in the French Army with 1787 to the Second Restoration.
States of service
It enters at 15 years as junior to the Irish regiment by Dillon where his/her father was lieutenant-colonel. Second lieutenant in 1787, it emigrates in 1791 with the officers of his regiment, is named captain the following year and makes the countryside of Champagne under the orders of the princes.
Passed in Ireland after the dislocation of the army in 1793, it returns the following year and is used until in 1798 in the Irish brigade as Walsh. It makes the campaigns with the the Western Indies in 1796 and 1797 and passes to the German regiment of the Queen with whom it makes the campaigns of the Mediterranean (1799 - 1800) and of Egypt (1801 - 1802) during which it was wounded with Alexandria and was decorated with the Turkish crescent.
Named major in 1809, it makes the campaigns of 1809, 1810 and 1811 with the armies of Spain and the Portugal. He is major of the Irish Régiment in 1812, colonel of this same regiment (become the 3 {{E}} Etranger) in 1813. He was with Antwerp during the Blocus of 1814. Having expressed its feelings for the Bourbons, it is suspended and imprisoned during 6 weeks before being exiled to have wanted to involve its regiment in the royal cause. In 1815 it is patented colonel by the king but resigns with the return of Napoleon. Colonel of the Legion of Haute-Loire this same year.
Marshal of the camps in 1823, it orders the 2nd brigade of the division of Cadiz and is named general inspector of the Infantry for the 14 and the 15th division soldiers in 1825. He dies with Boulogne in 1842, 70 years old.
He had been made knight of the Ordre of Saint Louis the August 3rd 1814 by the Duc of Berry, was commander of the Légion of honor, carried the plate of large cross of the Ordre of Saint-Ferdinand of Spain, the decoration of the crescent and the Lily.
